Surfers for Venezuela: Earthquake Relief

The Crisis on the Ground

A devastating series of earthquakes has struck the coast of La Guaira and Caraballeda, Venezuela.

Families in the local surf community have lost homes, belongings, livelihoods and loved ones. With basic services disrupted and local shelters overwhelmed, the need for practical support is urgent.

Together, we can stand with our brothers and sisters in Venezuela and help provide immediate relief.

How Groundswell Aid & Christian Surfers Are Responding

At Groundswell Aid, we believe faith is lived out through action.
As a core ministry of Christian Surfers, we work alongside local leaders where surfing, poverty and community intersect — both in everyday hardship and in times of crisis.

Luis Gutierrez, founder of Christian Surfers Venezuela, has served the communities of La Guaira and Caraballeda since 2003. The roots run deep.

Today, we are working directly with local leaders Oscar and Rene in Venezuela to deliver targeted relief to affected families along the coast.

Your gift reaches trusted local leaders.
Traditional banking channels to Venezuela are currently difficult to use. We have established a direct and verified transfer route with trusted Christian Surfers leaders on the ground.

Every gift is accounted for and designated for this relief response.

A message from Luis Gutierrez, Founder of Christian Surfers Venezuela

“Caraballeda is the town in Venezuela where I grew up and lived most of my life before emigrating to the United States five years ago. It is where I started surfing, and where the Christian Surfers mission in Venezuela began.

Today, that beautiful place is filled with rubble, destruction and death. Many people have lost their lives. Others have lost family members, their homes and everything they had.

My heart is with my people. Although I cannot be there in person, I am grateful that we can stand alongside them through the relationships we have built over many years.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported this project. May God bless you all.”

What Your Gift Makes Possible

Right now, the priority is simple: help families meet their basic needs.
In the first stage of our response, we are focused on providing practical, immediate support to families who have lost homes, belongings and livelihoods.

Emergency food & medical supplies
Providing food, clean water, medicine and other essential supplies to families facing shortages.

Essential household items
Helping replace refrigerators, stoves, fans and other necessities lost or damaged in the disaster.

Mobile credit & connectivity
Helping families and local leaders stay connected when communication is critical.

And then, we rebuild.
As the immediate crisis passes, our support will move toward longer-term recovery — helping local Christian Surfers leaders rebuild their communities, restore connection and bring the local ministry back to life.

Our response is about more than relief.
We want to stand alongside these families for the long haul — meeting urgent needs today and helping communities find hope, connection and purpose again tomorrow.

Your gift can help provide food, essential household supplies and practical support to earthquake-affected families in La Guaira and Caraballeda.

How You Can Help

There are three simple ways you can stand with the families and surf communities of Venezuela.
Whether you give once or become a monthly partner, your support helps local leaders respond to urgent needs today and rebuild for the future.

  • PRAY:
Pray for safety, provision and strength for Rene, Oscar, Luis and the families affected along the coast.

  • GIVE:
Help provide immediate, practical support to families facing food shortages, damaged homes and the loss of essential belongings.

  • SHARE:
Help us reach more people by sharing this campaign with your surf community, church, friends and social networks.

The emergency is immediate, but recovery takes time.
A one-time gift can help meet urgent needs today, while monthly partnership allows us to continue standing alongside the community as they rebuild.

Our Goal: $18,000

Our goal is to support at least 20 affected families
through immediate relief, ongoing care and community rebuilding.

$10,000 — Emergency Relief
Food, water, medicine, phone credit and essential household items.

$5,000 — Ongoing Care
Continued support for families and help with recovery.

$3,000 — Community Rebuilding
Supporting local leaders and helping Christian Surfers rebuild its local ministry.

Rebuilding Takes Time

Emergency relief helps families through today. But rebuilding homes, livelihoods and communities will take much longer.

A one-time gift helps meet urgent needs now.
Becoming a monthly partner helps us continue standing alongside the community as recovery continues.
