Aleph Baja is a branch of Aleph Surf International based in Northern Baja, Mexico. Aleph Baja is all about inviting youth to discover new possibilities for themselves in the outdoors — using a variety of recreational programs for youth including surfing, swim lessons and rock climbing as a platform for discipleship and sharing God’s love. They mentor young adults as assistant instructors in leading programs for youth and also offer education support in the form of tutoring and English classes.
Aleph Baja is based in La Misión, a small coastal town in Northern Baja. Many young people in the community face hard realities every day from poverty to broken families, to limited education opportunities. School dropout rates are high, and substance abuse is common. The problems are real, but so are the possibilities. Aleph seeks to apply an assets-based framework in connecting youth to the natural resources available in the local community — inviting youth to discover a different way of facing life’s storms, anchored in the story of God’s love for His creation.
Aleph programs teach trust, self-discipline, perseverance and overcoming fears―experiential lessons which apply to everyday life. We practice and model care for the environment. When youth encounter joy and connection in nature, they also open their eyes to the importance of protecting the natural world for everyone. The core of the ministry is building relationships. Every young person has a need to feel loved and supported by caring adults in their life. The Aleph Baja team works to cultivate a community of love and support in all that they do.
