Dean is an inspiring figure at South Beach Stoke, a surf ministry operating in the heart of South Beach, Durban, where poverty and crime are constant challenges.
At CSALT, he will acquire the skills needed to draw nearer to God, cultivate his leadership potential, and seek new opportunities in surfing and ministry that can benefit the community.

Dean is a 19 year-old with a servant’s heart, who has grown up facing the constant pressures of poverty and crime in South Beach, Durban. For half of his life, he moved around from family member to family member while his parents searched for work. His parents instilled God’s Word into Dean from a young age. Though he was initially drawn to South Beach Stoke because of surfing, over a decade at the project has shown him how surfing can impact lives and bring communities together. His time there has deepened his relationship with God, and given him an understanding of God’s love.
Dean has felt the life-changing impact of South Beach Stoke himself. Dean now aspires to bring hope to others in his community who share his struggles.

What is CSALT?
CSALT, the Christian Surfers Academy for Leadership Training, is dedicated to equipping young leaders for ministry. The program combines lectures that enhance understanding of the Word with worship and devotionals that deepen students’ relationships with God. Through collaborations with local ministries and involvement in surf competitions, students also gain valuable real-world experience.
With Willem currently having a need for leadership at South Beach Stoke, CSALT will train Dean to step into a leadership role, inspiring and uplifting those in his community.
