Recent Relief work in KZN

Durban, South Africa, and surrounding regions have experienced devastating floods which rocked the region! These floods resulted in the deaths of 435 people and left well over 40 000 individuals homeless.

One of the primary concerns that come with widespread flooding of this nature is access to clean drinking water.

Our partner project, Aleph Surf Int. based in Jeffreys Bay quickly responded to the call for help and flew up to Durban along with Groundswell Aid manager, Sylven van den Boogaart. 

Before arriving in Durban they partnered up with CSALT Jeffreys Bay, to collect donations for the flood victims. Items collected included clothing, bedding, and kitchen equipment. It was great to see such a generous response from the local J-Bay community, to help a neighboring province in need.

Our relief team along with Genesis Hope, in Port Shepstone and Masibambisane, located in Cato Manor, Durban,  were able to provide water filter systems and water filtration training to communities in Durban and Port Shepstone.

We were impressed with all the stories we heard from our local friends after, COVID, last year's riots, and now the floodings in Kwazulu Natal.

The beauty of their stories is that even though there is a lot of pain, they won’t give up serving their communities.
