Cyclone Seroja Relief
The beginning of April Cyclone Seroja affected many families on Rote Island. Our local friends of Mercy Huts shared their need for the community. It is now nearly two months later and there has been amazing work done by Mercy Huts and their team, and the local community have been working hard to feed the people in need and roofs have been repaired.
Here’s a word from Mercy Huts founder, Matt Thistlewaite:
I just wanted to say a huge thanks on behalf of the people of West Rote. The funds that you guys donated was put into buying roofing sheets and replacement timbers for heaps of homes in the area. 5 families have moved back into their homes which are now habitable and dry thanks to your generosity.
Brian Southwell and his wife Linda sought out folks that needed it most and put the money to great use. There were also some basic supplies like rice and noodles given out to sustain families while they were in temporary accommodation.
Thank you all for your help.
